Laura is a painter and printmaker, based in Bristol.
Growing up and receiving her BA in Art and Education on the west coast of the USA, she taught art at two leading UK secondary schools, held the post of Lincolnshire Art and Design Consultant for several years and now holds workshops for students and artists.
Drawn to fragile landscapes with their changing moods, Laura exploits both printmaking techniques and painting to explore subtleties, nuances, light and texture.
Printmaking is mainly experimental and she uses collagraphs, Gyotaku, carborundum printing and other non-chemical processes to push the boundaries and to achieve painterly qualities in the work.
Paintings are abstract landscapes in oil and cold wax medium which examine a spirit of place, often focusing in closely and calling on drawings, colour studies, photographs and remembered images in preparation for the final work. Paintings are constantly changing and evolving and by adding layers and then scratching away at the surface, traces of earlier layers are revealed and the process continues until her intention for the painting has been realised.
