Paula Sharples

Paula Sharples lives and works in the Peak District, Derbyshire.

Having gained a degree in Textile Design at Reigate School of Art in Surrey in the early 1970s, she spent 15 years as a freelance textile designer for the international bedding and furnishing market, creating designs for companies such as Coloroll, John Wilman Interiors, Portmeirion, Churchill China and John Wolf Decorative Fabrics in the USA . This design work, the landscape surrounding her home plus the coast around North Norfolk and Cornwall, have all significantly influenced her work.

Working on gesso prepared board with acrylic, ink and graphite and using a combination of still life with landscape backdrops, Paula’s paintings are usually divided into three parts, with domestic objects and flowers in the foreground, then land and finally sky.  Her use of pattern and colour is evidence of her past in textile and ceramic design.
