Penny Frith

Penny Frith lives and works in Cambridge.

She completed an art foundation course at CCAT in Cambridge before graduating with a degree in Graphic Design in 1991. Following a career in animation including winning first prize at The Nimes film festival for her animated film "Surface", which was also featured by the BBC in their Animation Now series, she returned to Cambridge to raise a family.

Over recent years she's rediscovered her love of painting, particularly in oils. She has now taken up painting full time. Penny draws inspiration from her travels to the scenic coastlines and landscapes of the UK and France. She strives to convey a sense of tranquillity along with a luminous light filled quality through use of colour and proportion. The vista and skies in Penny's work all start from somewhere she's been, but the abstract nature captures something emotional rather than figurative, evoking the feeling of somewhere known and loved.
