Polly Luce

Based in North Somerset

Polly Luce is a British contemporary painter known for her vibrant semi-abstract landscapes that evoke the emotional experience of being immersed in nature. Born in 1990 and based in North Somerset, she draws inspiration from the British countryside and coastline, particularly the South West, where she grew up in East Devon.

Her work is characterised by expressive mark-making, rich textures, and a dynamic use of colour that reflects seasonal shifts and the joy of outdoor life. Polly seeks to express the pleasure one feels by simply being outside and how this can bring snippets of joy to day to day life. Her paintings are created intuitively, with colour often being the starting point for a painting and a way in which to explore an emotive response to landscape.

A self-taught artist with a background in Art History from the University of St Andrews, Luce transitioned to full-time painting in 2022. Her paintings have quickly gained recognition, earning her the Lady Hamlyn Award at the Chelsea Arts Society’s 74th Annual Exhibition in 2023.
